Maulana Rumi RA mentions in one of his couplet the importance of an special trait that Allah SWT has blessed all of us.

He says when we have been given the wings to fly to the mercy and forgiveness of Allah SWT why should we waste our time crawling towards our goal. Repentance is a vehicle which, within no time, elevates a person from the darkness of sins to the blessings and intimacy of Allah SWT.

مرکب توبہ عجائب مرکب است

My Shaikh Hazrat Hakim Muhammad Akhtar ra used to say that Allah swt is so kind that when a person repents, He not only forgives him but also starts loving him.

اِنَّ اللہَ یُحِبُّ التَّوَّابِیۡنَ وَ یُحِبُّ الۡمُتَطَہِّرِیۡنَ

It does not matter how many or how severe sins have we committed. Nothing can withstand the showers of His mercy and blessings. And a hadith of Rasoolullah ﷺ is reported that التَّائِبُ مِنْ الذَّنْبِ كَمَنْ لَا ذَنْبَ لَهُ which means that a persons who repents is just like the one who has not committed the sin.

Whenever a sin is committed we just try to perform following actions:

1. feel sorry from depth of heart for what has been committed, ان یندم علیھا
2. start keeping distance from this sin and its causes, ان یقلع عن المعصیہ
3. a commitment to try to not to repeat this sin, ان یعزم عزماجازما ان لا یعود الیھا
4. give back any material that we owe to others as a result of this sin.

If we don’t find courage to leave whatever displeases Allah swt, why don’t we start repenting. Today; everyday; again and again; every time we are blessed with realization of our sins. Surely we will see a day when the urge for sins will die down and we will soon get over our illicit desires and other adversaries.

نہ چت کر سکے نفس کے پہلواں کو
تو یوں ہاتھ پاوں بھی ڈھیلے نہ ڈالے
ارے اس سے کشتی تو ہےعمر بھر کی
کبھی وہ دبالے کبھی تو دبالے
