When Truth is not Clear

A lot of times we hear conflicting views about an issue and we are perplexed as to which way is the right path. These conflicts may arise due to shifting definitions of Halal and Haram in contemporary viewport. Sometimes this conflict is merely a difference of opinion between contemporary islamic jurists while on other occasions it could be due to a natural tendency to choose the path of over-simplification and convenience. And, sometimes it is just a matter of choosing a better option.

Whether I should wear niqaab?; Should one part ways with his/her abusive spouse; should ‘halal’ labelled electrocuted meat be consumed, should I follow an organization which is apparently sincere to Muslims but whose working style looks different, Cryptocurrency, orthodoxy or modern approaches, and it is an endless list which is unique to everybody.

Our Creator and the One who knows what is the best path for us has guided us in such difficult circumstances. Allah Taala says

O people who are believers, if you observe piety Allah will give you the the wisdom to differentiate between the right and the wrong and will and will remove from you your sins, and forgive you; and Allah is the Owner of the great bounty.

My Shaikh Hazrat Maulana Jalil Ahmed Akhoon damat barkatuham used to teach with regards to the above verse that observing piety and refraining from sins brings wisdom in such situation of indecisiveness that help the pious people steer themselves towards a path which is best for them. And observing piety also erase the already committed sins and brings forgiveness from the Lord.

The above method of finding the truth does not undermine the role of knowledge and Ulema. It is a separate and clear advise to seek knowledge from those who posses it.

فَسْــٴَـلُوْۤا اَهْلَ الذِّكْرِ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُوْنَۙ ( الانبیاء 7)

So, ask the people (having the knowledge) of the message, if you do not know. – 21:7)

While both paths are guided by Allah SWT, the former gives a (وہبی) divinely gifted method and the latter provides an (کسبی) acquired means of finding the right path.

A person should use both of these described treasures and lead his/her life with conviction and peace of mind.

Two solutions to overcome hurdles

We often find ourselves cornered and helpless after we have exhausted all possible solutions to our difficulties and hurdles in our lives. The worldly life is designed by its Creator in such a way that a man witnesses both joys and miseries. And this is natural for this world. Nobody enjoys happiness for all of his life and nobody remains tragic forever. When Allah’s Rasool (SallallahoAlaihi wassalam) had to face miseries, divorce of his daughters, death of his only son, death of daughter and beloved companions, who could be closer to Allah SWT than His prophet. The pious people find the tragic events of the life a means of getting closer to the Allah Taala and they feel the gentle comforting touch they get directly in their hearts in those testing times.

There are two solutions which our Creator has given us to use and guarantees that whoever uses these solutions will surely start witnessing that showstoppers and roadblocks no longer remain hurdles in his/her life. The hurdles are either removed or their existence does not harm us anymore.

First solution is to observe piety. My shaikh Hazrat Maulana Hakim Akhtar Sb used to define a pious person as either the one who leaves the sins altogether or the one who repents his bad deeds. Both are pious inshaAllah.
(  وَمَنۡ یَّتَّقِ اللّٰہَ یَجۡعَلۡ لَّہٗ مَخۡرَجًا ۙ )
[Surah At-Talaq 2] Whoever fears Allah, He brings forth a way out for him

Second solution is to frequently ask Allah Taala for forgiveness.

من لَزِمَ الاستغفار جعل الله له من كل ضِيقٍ مخرجًا، ومن كل هَمٍّ فرجًا، وَرَزَقَهُ من حيث لا يحتسب

The one who makes it mandatory to do repentance, Allah taala opens door for him in every difficult situation and He keeps him away from the sorrow and grief and provides sustenance from where he cannot think of it.

Another, worldly benefit of observing piety and repentance is that the person starts to discover his livelihoods from unimaginable ways. The above worldly benefits are apart from the fact that pious are the real beneficiary of the most luxurious life hereafter. والعاقبۃ للمتقین۔
